Farmer Profile for Karima Samadi

Co-Applicant / Partner Name:

Michael Thomas Wane

Experience

Please describe your past and/or present farming experience:

Farming is in my blood. My father was horticulturist and taught soil science, my Mom grew up on a sugarcane and peanut farm in India. I've been around agriculture all my life, and dedicated my career to study food systems. I have four years of experience farming and creating ag ed curriculum for an educational farm in Cincinnati (Gorman Heritage Farm), and I've worked for OSU Extension for eight years teaching nutrition and researching food security. It's been my dream to carry on the legacy of my family's farming roots and buy a small farm.

Business Plan/Goals

Do you have a business plan? Please write an informative description of your vision & goals for your farming future.:

Once established, I would like to create some on-farm experiences in the form of farm tours, culinary/cooking classes, small workshops for youth k-12. If production is fruitful, I would like to create a CSA, and potentially explore farmer's markets and sale of value-added products (salsas, jams, breads). The farm we are seeking does not have to be organic, although we plan to improve the soil health of whatever land we acquire through regenerative agriculture.
