Hello, my name is Kalani Storey. My husband, Samuel, and I have a 3 1/2 year old son, Sammy. He was recently diagnosed with autism. We changed our lifestyle and moved from the city and our careers to the small town where my in-laws live in order to avoid working full time just to pay someone else to raise our child. Unfortunately, our postage stamp sized yard in a small fishing town on the coast of Washington doesn’t provide the space or experiences that we want to provide our son. Sammy loves to be outside and playing in the dirt. His autism is easier to manage when he gets to spend quality time outside. The gold star autism therapy (ABA) teaches cause and reaction, consequences, patience and self responsibility. Having a farm would allow us to work from home & include our son’s therapy into every aspect of our day. We are looking for a self sustaining (organic preferred) farm capable of providing a modest income. We are open to a variety of locations across the Midwest and South. A living space for our family is a must. Options would include; timbered land or backing a preserve/park, orchard (main crop or not), enough agricultural land for personal use and able to sell to the community and room for some smaller livestock. This will be a new adventure for both my husband and I. I have 17+ years in law enforcement and animal welfare and my husband has primarily been in the customer relations field. We are new to this venture but have the motivation, determination, Faith and commitment to succeed. We are open to a variety of additional business options including; event hosting, pick your own customer harvesting, organic herbals for cosmetic compounding (I’m a certified pharmacy technician), and a non-profit for child with autism to gain farm and animal exposure/lessons/therapy.
